World renowned high fashion Brazilian supermodel– arguably the last true supermodel remaining in the work force– Gisele Bündchen is doing something nearly unheard of. In her most recent ad, for BLK DNM, the model had her photos taken sans makeup, hair styling, or any sort of Photoshop. Can you imagine that? An ad with ZERO makeup or Photoshop? So we actually get to see what this model looks like before she’s retouched and enhanced? YES.
The Brazilian bombshell explains the choice as a result of her first meeting with BLK DNM’s brand designer Johan Lindeberg:
“I came in and I met him and I said, ‘This guy, he’s a very real, nice person. I want to do something with him. And then he said, ‘OK, we have two hours. Let’s just do it now — no hair, no makeup, and really real.’”
The mother of two and wife of Tom Brady truly embraced the brand designer’s vision:
“I feel like women should be really real and raw, and it doesn’t really happen anymore [in fashion photographs],” she said. “I love that feeling of, you know, we are women, we are so different, our imperfections are what make us unique and beautiful.”
While it may be hard to accept the idea of imperfections coming from a woman who is internationally acknowledged as nearly flawless, she has the right idea when it comes to not only accepting, but embracing our unique traits and beauty. Lindeberg agrees:
“I’m a massive feminist. I’m the one who thinks that women should take over completely. To portray women as who they are — I see it more like a documentary portrait. I’m anti-retouching and [anti-] plastic surgery. I think a woman is beautiful how she is.”
